A Different Kind of Battle
Peace shouldn’t just be the burden of the Armed Forces. It’s not just the duty of my father, of Col. Galvez, and of all the other soldiers who were there. Peace shouldn’t just be the burden of the people in Basilan either. Peace is a burden all Filipinos should carry in their hearts. And until we get to that beautiful, poverty-free Philippines that each and every Filipino can be proud of, until we wake up to that peaceful Philippines where each and every Filipino is free to speak, to dream and where no one is left behind, we shouldn’t stop.

GK Mandaluyong CYD Olympics
Close to 350 participants not counting the chaperones, parents and guardians gathered for the GK Mandaluyong CYD Olympics, playing the same games that they competed for during the previous year: basketball, volleyball, badminton, chess, darts, cheerdance and the newly included football.

Underneath the Crossfire
I am full of hope that soon the “memorials” for peace would no longer be bullet-riddled jeeps but the people of Basilan themselves, especially the children who would start going to school. Landmarks would no longer be notorious ambush areas but beautiful communities that would be built out of mutual respect and shared love for the Almighty, for the country and for the poor. Walang Iwanan!

ENDING POVERTY FOR 5 MILLION FAMILIES BY 2024
“Gawad Kalinga,” translated in English means to “give care”, is a Philippine-based movement that aims to end poverty by first restoring the dignity of the poor. It employs an integrated and holistic approach to empowerment  with values-formation and leadership development at its core. Established in 2003, The Foundation currently works with over 2,000 communities and has been recognized as the 2006 Ramon Magsaysay Awardee & 2012 Skoll Awardee for Social Entrepreneurship.
