The Philippines is highly vulnerable to climate change effects such as super typhoons, earthquakes, and drought. At Gawad Kalinga communities, there is a growing awareness among the Kapitbahayan that in the face of emergencies, preparedness saves lives.
The National Reinsurance Corporation of the Philippines (NRCP) recently organized a training workshop for residents of GK Pinagsama Village in Taguig, facilitated by Lt. Col Ely Garcia and TSG Wilfredo Lalog of the 3rd Force Wing Reserve and Gawad Kalinga’s Julius Paradero.
Butch Hidalgo, President and CEO of National Reinsurance Corporation of the Philippines NRCP, expressed full support efforts towards disaster preparedness and mitigation in GK communities.
The aim of the training was to build the capacity of Kapitbahayan Leaders and GK Youth to improve preparedness and response at all levels—before, during and after disasters strike. All components to work together in a coordinated manner were also highlighted. According to GK worker Drey Bendijo, the focus of disaster preparedness training is generally to improvethe technical skills of the participants.
The trainers during the exercise are from 3rd Force Wing Reserve headed by and Training Director Lt. Col Ely Garcia, Tito Julius Paradero and TSG Wilfredo Lalog who traveled early morning from Batangas.
Thank you National Reinsurance Corporation of the Philippines for enabling disaster-ready GK communities. Huuhaa!
