One of the first steps to transforming the lives of the poor is providing them with a space where they feel safe and comfortable. Apart from struggling with their daily needs, the poor need to contend with substandard living conditions and insecurity of tenure in the temporary spaces they occupy. Providing them with a decent home and a peaceful environment where their families can flourish will allow them to anchor their dreams on a future that is full of hopeful possibilities. Gawad Kalinga facilitates securing the land and the building materials through the contribution of partners, however the beneficiaries also contribute to building their homes through sweat equity. This bayanihan ecosystem becomes the platform to build the real solution to the problem of social disconnection — a culture of caring and sharing among all the members of the community.

WHERE YOUR HELP WILL GO

A standard home is roughly 25sqm in floor area, with 1 bedroom
and 1 toilet and bath. A village usually requires 1-2 hectares of
space to include other common infrastructures such as
multi-purpose halls and communal gardens.
