Apart from struggling with their daily needs, the poor need to contend with substandard living conditions and insecurity of tenure in the temporary spaces they occupy. Providing them with a decent home and a peaceful environmentwhere their families can flourish will allow them to anchor their dreams on a future that is full of hopeful possibilities. Gawad Kalinga facilitates securing the land and the building materialsthrough the contribution of partners, however the beneficiaries also contribute to building their homes through sweat equity. This bayanihan ecosystem becomes the platform to build the real solution to the problem of social disconnection — a culture of caring and sharing among all the members of the community.
