Heroes Weekend

Last August 29-31, 2015, hundreds of volunteers celebrated Heroes Weekend with our communities together with family and friends from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. A long weekend well-spent bringing love and a little light to the different GK communities located in Bataan, Bohol,  Butuan Ciry,  Camarines Norte, Capiz, Cavite, La Union, Leyte, Metro Manila, Negros Occidental, Nueva Ecija, Rizal, Siargao, Tarlac, Zamboanga City.

“ – Rick Jayson, GK Youth, WCC

Even the residents of our Gawad Kalinga communities took part in the volunteer activities in their own communities, working alongside our volunteers. Cause everyone can take part!
“Ito po ang pagdiriwang sa pambansang araw ng mga bayani ng mga kapitbahayan ng GK Puting Tubig, Gapan, Nueva Ecija ng dalawang araw.” – Raffy Rodriguez, GK Worker

Our Nanays from GK Puting Tubig exchanging stories while working together.

“I'm inspired because in GK Cox Village, we had Chinese and Japanese volunteers who can't speak and understand English. Why am I inspired? It is because they have the passion to care and love our people even though they can't understand us and I can’t understand them either. But my learning as a Filipino is that no matter how hard it is to speak and understand the language, don't be shy to say it. As long as you accept your mistakes and you are willing to learn, they will understand you eventually.” – PB Infante, GK Worker

Back breaking work at GK Cox Village, Quezon City. All for the families in this community.

“Exhausted of all the bad things happening around Metro Manila? We can all do better than scrolling down our news feeds and joining the virtual fiasco. Try to find happiness offline. Get along with your friends, laugh hard over no brainer and private jokes, find good food, exercise and help others.
The same formula you can find by volunteering in Gawad Kalinga. ✊Join the movement and see the goodness about Filipinos and learn how to create a lifestyle of positive choices and genuine social impact.” – Kimpoy Remos, Volunteer, GK UPLB

“Coz we can be heroes no matter who we are and no matter where we came from as long as we have one goal in mind.” – Yaan Lagsub, Mission Volunteer, Eastern Visayas

At AFC GK Village, Palo, Leyte

“This day showed me how a simple gesture of heroism can truly change a person, a family and a community. This day was full of hope, laughter, reminiscing, inspiration and yellow-red paints! Today's fruit of heroism can be seen physically in the newly repainted multi-purpose hall. But the greatest fruit are the ones that only the heart of Heroes can see. The growing Love for God and Country.” – Jerese Joy Madriaga, GK Worker

Welcome to our community in GK Mahay Village, Mahay, Butuan City. When we see our communities continuously working together and enjoying each other's company (ours included!) despite of all the everyday struggle they continue to go through as families and communities, it pushes us to do more.

“The 3rd batch of GK Youth Sapian ended their activities with a chant. Having set activities, Kalinga sa Bayan activities and upcoming camps for Sapian, much is their excitement and inspiration that they will do a Paraisong Pambata this coming September 12, 2015 as one of the many activities until 2016. All were formulated by them. I am personally excited for their Christmas Gift giving program and the Zumba activities. They have pledged that the planning is not a practice planning but something they will commit to.” – JC Corros, Volunteer, Capiz
