Rizal Technological University Partners with GK Mandaluyong for Grassroots Football
[Date Created: August 13, 2013]

Gawad Kalinga Mandaluyong, thru GK’s grassroots football program called the GK SipaG, recently partnered with the Rizal Technological University’s sports program to enable both not just in promoting football but also in pushing the GK kids to be better and productive citizens of our country through the football discipline.

The football partnership program is also anchored in the belief that working with GK’s child-and-youth beneficiaries will provide a valuable mentoring opportunity for RTU students and players to develop their leadership abilities as well as their sense of service for the community.

RTU had opened its gates by allowing GK to make use of the RTU quadrangle as training venue for the kids during the summer break and during the school-year on weekends, with RTU’s own wards providing such mentoring.

Dr. Jesus Rodrigo F. Torres, Dr. Arlene Grace C. Diaz, Prof. Noraida N. La Rosa and Prof. Patrocinio Macalinao Jr. of RTU are instrumental in taking in GK SipaG players in its fold. It is their noble intention to get its college football team involved in the furtherance of the GK kids’ training, with the end-view of inspiring these kids to study harder that they may avail of RTU scholarships later. GK Mandaluyong has football clubs in Bgy. Barangka Drive, Bgy. Addition Hills and Bgy. Buayang Bato, local government areas where GK sites are found.

The GK-RTU football partnership program was forged within the provisions of the Memorandum Of Agreement signed during the Stakeholders’ Meeting last January 25, 2013 and is good for five years.

Gawad Kalinga is not a charity, rather, it's an organization that aims to end poverty by building sustainable communities. GK SipaG is a special project under the Child & Youth Development Program of Gawad Kalinga (GK) that seeks to develop youth through sports, specifically football/soccer. We hope to motivate underprivileged children in our communities to enroll in school, improve their grades, and attend values formation sessions (conducted by Gawad Kalinga) through sports.
