Pegi Waffles holds art auction and painting workshop for GK

By: Kara Medina

Pegi Waffles is more than just about serving sumptuous waffles – it is also about sharing and caring through the powerful medium of art.

The proceeds from this art auction will be for the construction of a house in a GK Bohol village.

Paint.Share.Care. is an art auction that is the brainchild of Anna Roman-Katigbak, founder and owner of Pegi Waffles, and Rose Cabrera, founder of Mabuhay Restop. Amateur painters as young as six years old and professional artists as established as Vince Padilla generously shared their creative work to raise funds to build homes in our GK village in Talibon, Bohol. The starting bid for children’s paintings is at PHP3,000 while larger canvases by art hobbyists are at PHP10,000. Mr. Padilla’s Time is Priceless begins at PHP30,000, which is a genuine steal from what would be its usual gallery price. These works are exhibited at Café Publico in Greenhills Promenade, Mabuhay Restop in Ermita, and Pegiwafflerie in San Juan.

“We hope that by piloting this intimate art project, we can be a model to be replicated by other GK entrepreneurs who own retail venues nationwide,” shares Anna. For its pilot run, Paint.Share.Care. is accepting online bids only until August 30, 2016. Eventually in the following year, it hopes to consider bulk buys in a series of afternoon tea parties.

To raise awareness for the auction, Pegi Waffles also hosted an intimate three-hour art workshop for 15 children last August 13, 2016. Four young painters from our own GK site in Ma. Clara, Barangka Drive were invited to learn from prestigious art heavyweights Buds Convocar and Vince Padilla, and to enjoy afternoon tea afterwards. Parents and auction bidders also attended the event, where they were served delicious Pegi Waffles food and an introduction not just to Paint.Share.Care. but to Gawad Kalinga’s advocacy as well.

In its effort to involve more bidders in its cause, Pegi Waffles is also selling donation cards at PHP1,000 each. Each card also entitles the buyer to afternoon tea at the wafflerie, to be held on the Saturdays of August 20 and August 30, as well as an opportunity to win one of the artworks either made by the children during the workshop, or created by hobbyists and displayed at Pegi.

Pegi Waffles endeavors to find many ways to contribute to GK Bohol.

Through Paint.Share.Care. and its accompanying painting workshop, Pegi Waffles hopes to empower the making of good art, and to channel the appreciation of this art to a similarly good cause.
