If each of us takes part in caring and sharing, the overwhelming challenge of poverty can be addressed. Alone we can do so little, but together we can do so much.

Gawad Kalinga has activated Operation Walang Iwanan: Typhoon Hagupit/Ruby. We are initially raising 20,000 food packs (P200 per pack) for relief operations and are establishing operation centers in Cebu, Tacloban, Borongan, Bacolod, Iloilo, Batangas, Lucena and Naga. These centers will coordinate relief operations depending on the final path of Typhoon Hagupit/Ruby. Below are the latest updates from the ground:

December 12, 2014 (6:35 PM)
SOUTHERN LEYTE

"Delivering the first 700 food packs to Leyte from GK Southern Leyte. Clem, a French GK volunteer with a Filipino heart. If foreigners are willing to help our countrymen, then why won't we?"

- Jigjig, Team GK Southern Leyte

December 9, 2014 (10:39 AM)
LEYTE

"For the love of Eastern Samar, walang iwanan."
- Team GK Southern Leyte

Our teams in Leyte and Southern Leyte preparing relief goods to families affected by Typhoon #RubyPH. No storm can stop us from bringing and sharing hope! Take part in Operation Walang Iwanan!

December 8, 2014 (9:35 PM)
ILOILO

"Even as we conduct relief operations for victims of Typhoon Hagupit, our post-Haiyan reconstruction work continues. Tomorrow, 40 homes in the GK Assumpta Village in Concepcion, Iloilo will be turned over to victims of Typhoon Haiyan, funded by the Religious of the Assumption.

Each home we build means one less family at risk - but Typhoon Hagupit showed us that it also means these homes can be an evacuation center for 2-3 more families in each house during disasters. Our work to ‪#‎buildhope‬ and ‪#‎endpoverty‬ continues. Walang iwanan!

December 8, 2014 (12:51 PM)
LEYTE

While Ruby was downgraded, there is still the need to distribute relief goods because the families will have to organize their lives in the next few days. For fishermen, they will not be fishing in the next couple of days, for farmers and those working, they may not be reporting for work or harvesting, hence the need to continue our relief efforts.

"Now happening: Kusina ng Kalinga operations for #RubyPH evacuees. 1,500 hot meals distributed to the residents and evacuees in Pago (Tanauan), San Roque (Alang-Alang), Palanog and Cabalawan (Tacloban)." - Chrisjohn Nased, GK Worker, Leyte

December 8, 2014 (10:34 AM)
LEYTE

"Our GK communities in Tacloban and Alang-alang, Leyte. The homes you painted stand strong. It housed many evacuees." - Jedee, GK Volunteer, Leyte

We would like to take this time to say THANK YOU to our GK communities who took in families of their surrounding communities. Most if not all of our GK sites in the affected areas have become evacuation centers, with each house adopting 2-3 families each.
Salamat sa patuloy na inspirasyon!

Be part of Operation Walang Iwanan!

December 7, 2014 (8:00 PM)
METRO MANILA

Due to the threat of flooding and power outages, GK HQ has temporarily "evacuated" to the Profriends Building because it has a genset and is on higher ground. Grateful for amazing friends and partners who support our backbone operations and enable us to coordinate our relief and evacuation work in areas affected by Hagupit. Special shout-out also to all our co-servants here and on-ground who have been serving throughout the weekend. If it is safe for you to join us tomorrow, we accept volunteers to man our GK Operation Walang Iwanan Secretariat here at 55 Tinio, Mandaluyong City.

December 7, 2014 (4:56 PM)
LEYTE

Our disaster team from Ormoc makes their way to Samar, to bring the initial relief needed by those affected by Typhoon Hagupit (Ruby).

Walang iwanan!

December 7, 2014 (4:56 PM)
LEYTE

"On our way to Tacloban now at 4:56 PM, to meet Team GK to set-up OPERATION WALANG IWANAN relief operation center. See you Team GK Tacloban. Pray for our safety."

- Bryan G, GK Eastern Visayas

The first 24-48 hours after a storm are the most critical, and we need your help to raise the initial 20,000 food packs for distribution. Ruby may not be as destructive but relief operations will be just as intense due to pre-emptive measures that have added at least 2 days that families need to be cared for. During these times, it is better to err in being conservative than raise the risk of losing lives.

December 7, 2014 (2:33 PM)
AKLAN

Most if not all of our GK sites in the affected areas have become evacuation centers, with each house adopting 2-3 families each. The LGUs found our sites to be safe areas and the houses we built performed as designed. This affirms our strategy of proactive relocation to move families from danger zones to safe areas and prevent loss of lives.

Here's an update from Kuya Cilo, Kapitbahayan president of GK Fatima in New Washington, Aklan: "We are okay here. So far no rains yet, just strong winds. No electricity since yesterday so we can't hear updates on news. More than 50 familes (est 200 pax) from the bay area are currently here at the GK site for safety."

December 7, 2014 (2:19 PM)

Our kitchens in Alang-Alang (designed for our feeding program) cooked 1,500 hot meals that we are delivering to various GK sites (1,200 for Tanauan and 200 for Cabalawan/Palanog) that have now become evacuation centers.

"More than 12 hours of whipping wind and intermittent torrential rain. Still ongoing. imagine the trauma and the colossal damage. To all traumatized friends after Yolanda, particularly in Tacloban, our thoughts are with you. Hold on and keep the faith. Thank God we're alive. it's a good morning still.
