WELCOME TO THE GK HOPE SUMMIT 2010 HOMEPAGE!

Gawad Kalinga (“GK”) invites you to the 2nd GK Global Summit to take place in Singapore on June 25-27, 2010. Dedicated to the eradication of poverty in Asia, this event is held in coordination with the Singapore Government and partners from academic institutions and corporations with GK Hope Initiative (“GKHi”) of Singapore as host.

Since 2003, beginning in the Philippines, Gawad Kalinga (which means“to Give Care”) has successfully brokered private and public partnerships, bridged friendships between Muslims and Christians, and triggered massive volunteerism.

Due to its transformative impact on both the poor and the rich alike, it has become a global movement and a community building template for other developing countries.

We want to share the GK way with like-minded global citizens to help expand our work. Through this summit, we hope to achieve the following goals:

  1. To launch Gawad Kalinga as an Asian model of development against poverty, with Singapore as the hub.
  2. To sustain the resolve of a growing global army of partners andvolunteers to end poverty for 5 million of the poorest Filipino families following a 21 year development timeline of GK. In addition, after the launching in Boston in 2009, this is the chance for GK to share its work to the region, and show how Asians are ending poverty in Asia, harmonized with faith and cultural values.
  3. To honor outstanding Asians, starting with the GK village builders of Singapore, the academic and corporate partners who have made heroic sacrifices to grow the movement and to attract more partners to GK’s vision of building a better world.
  4. To showcase innovations and best practices and to recognize partners from government, business, and civil society. Outstanding governors and mayors will present their development plans to build trust, attract grants and investments, and encourage tourism in their respective areas; CEOs will showcase how they go beyond conventional Corporate Social Responsibility for greater wealth creation and social impact.
  5. To honor our village leaders and community builders, particularly KB presidents (“Neighborhood Association” presidents) and Project Directors - our unsung-every-day-heroes, bringing them to Singapore for the world to hear their inspiring stories.

As our valued partner, patriot and friend, we would like to invite you to join us in this historic event. We look forward to the sharing and shaping of our collective dream of an Asia without poverty that every Asian can be proud of to call ‘home’.

Sincerely,

Tony Meloto

Chairman, Gawad Kalinga
