1st Day of School: The School for Experiential and Entrepreneurial Development (SEED) Philippines Opens at the GK Enchanted Farm
[Date Created: August 11, 2014]

Today is Day 1 of the School for Experiential and Entrepreneurial Development (SEED) at the GK Enchanted Farm in Bulacan. Starting with about 47 bright and determined students from various public schools in Bulacan, the school aims to produce graduates who will tackle poverty through agriculture and innovation and with a 'heart frame' of uplifting as many poor with them in that journey. The program will run for 2 years with a curriculum co-developed with TESDA and the international community in love with the Farm.

This is where young social entrepreneurs from the ground, from public schools, will emerge with love of country and fellow Filipino poor, raising many from poverty through social enterprise that does not leave the poor behind.

"We are creating a walang iwanan economy so that when the poor rise, they won't leave the other poor behind." - Tony Meloto, Gawad Kalinga Founder

"I come from a family of farmers. My parents work whole day on the field but it's never enough to send me to college. I want to become a farmer and an entrepreneur. Farming feeds the world."
- Ron, SEED Scholar

"Poverty is my inspiration to be on top. It's one thing to be smart, but it's all about the attitude."
- Rinalyn, SEED Scholar

"We all want to see a better nation. We all want to see a desire to succeed. But it's meaningless if the poor are left behind." - Sec. Francis Pangilinan, Presidential Assistant for Food Security and Agricultural Modernization

"I am excited for SEED and for you, our scholars. It is the first time I am hearing the young looking forward to farming, and we need that...Take on the courage to pursue your dreams." - Luis Oquinena, Gawad Kalinga Executive Director

"We want this school to be the best because the least deserves it, the stone that our society neglected will be the cornerstone in the future." - Cherrie Atilano, Agricool Founder
