GK Operation Walang Iwanan Reconstruction Stage

The vision of this project is to successfully reconstruct a community for families from disaster-affected barangays, where they will have a sense of hope and security. This community shall become a beacon of resilience and solidarity.

This can be realized through continuous play therapies, community organizing, values formation and infrastructure-building (i.e. homes, school and community centers).

The first objective of our reconstruction phase is to build communities for typhoon victims in the following areas:

Iligan City : 2,500 homes
Families from the initially identified four barangays (Santiago, Hinaplanon, Upper HInaplanon and San Roque) can be accommodated in the following relocation areas :

Site development plan for Sta. Elena relocation site for 1,608 families.

> 15.9 hectare land in Brgy. Sta. Elena allocated by the local government unit of Iligan for Gawad Kalinga
> Existing GK communities where there is available land
> Remote areas currently being cleared by the Mines & Geosciences Bureau for on-site reconstruction whenever relocation to other areas is impractical
Cagayan de Oro City : 500 homes
Two properties are currently being considered and cleared

Negros Oriental : 250 homes
Although they were barely in the news, Negros Oriental was also badly affected by Typhoon Sendong & GK will build for families in Valencia and Dumaguete City.

The second objective is to build sustainable communities by constructing homes and other community infrastructures (i.e. school, community centers, basketball court and courtyards) as well as introduce values formation and other programs for health, education & livelihood;

The third objective is to build the community through the GK way of caring and sharing; bayanihan and padugo; heroism and excellence.

GK's Executive Director Luis Oquinena with Mayor Lawrence Cruz, signing the development plan for Bayanihan sa Iligan Village for the survivors of Typhoon Sendong. Building a GK community of 3384 families! 7000 families to go.
