Tanjay City, Negros Oriental
A day of rest after their first Relief Operations in Valencia and Dumaguete is more than enough for these volunteers because they believe that a day of rest would also mean another day of difficulty for ‘Sendong’ victims whose homes were totally swept by flood. Tanjay City in Negros Oriental was one of the areas badly hit by the recent typhoon.
A group of young volunteers here in Tanjay City called KACHINAS, organized themselves and mounted a relief operations in the various barangays severely affected by ‘Sendong” specifically Riverside Brgy 2, where 25 families received goods and some 50 families in Riverside Brgy 3. Not just a fraternity and sorority without direction and once a source of different sorts of troubles in the city, 'Kachinas' was engaged by our long time GK Volunteers in Tanjay and became part of our Kalinga Teams. And soon enough, they were deep into community work and became a model for other fraternities to follow.
This is what Volunteerism for Nation building is all about. Tanjay City is yet to have its own GK Village, and yet, the spirit of volunteerism powered by love for God and Country is what fuels the heart of these passionate and untiring young generations of Filipinos. Mabuhay kayo Kachinas!

A tragedy that will forever be remembered in the history of our country. More than a thousand died and hundreds still missing. Damage to properties and lives reached sky high. A sad event for us Filipinos. Nature was unforgiving. Still, no matter how dark the night was, hope came to those who felt there was none. Help came from all parts of the country and the globe. Filipinos and Non-Fiipinos rushed to help our battered motherland. A heroic and gigantic effort was mounted to bring aid, supplies and hope to Filipinos, reeling from a catastrophic disaster, codename "Operation Walang Iwanan".

Destruction in Dumaguete caused by Typhoon Sendong

Here in the Island of Negros, a group of nameless heroes stood up and joined hands. Primary Goal: Bring supplies to families in Valencia who were cut off due to damage to access roads. What was supposed to be a 30 minute travel to GK Geothermal site in Bgy. Malaunay, Valencia, became a 2 hour and 30 minutes of climbing, trekking, including walking on hot pipes to reach the other side of the river. From a point were vehicles can no longer drive through, these volunteers hand carried all the relief supplies and walked for 4 kilometers to reach our 20 GK families, 30 families from Bgy Malaunay, and 30 families from Bgy Cadiocan, in Valencia.

Dumaguete was also one of the hardest hit by 'Sendong'. From Valencia, our courageous and tireless volunteers went to Dumaguete City, specifically to bring more supplies to our 24 families in GK3 Village and 10 other families in Candau-ay. Located beside the river, the village was established in the year 2004 and the lot was donated by the Dumaguete City Gov’t, our 1st LGU partnership in Negros Or. 1 duplex house was wiped out and 17 other houses were severely damaged by the flooding forcing some of our kapitbahayans to pitch a temporary shelter in a nearby clearing.
A tragedy that will never be forgotten. Yet, a disaster that also allowed us to witness the hearts of those who would truly lay their lives on the line just to bring hope, security, faith and love to fellowmen. I honor you all, heroes of the nation. 'Filipinos are worth dying for' and no one is left behind. Thank you very much and Mabuhay ka, 'Bayaning Pilipino".

GK Negros Oriental Operation Walang Iwanan on the go. 120 families of our villages were affected. A greater number of families from Dumaguete to Tanjay needs help too.
A 4 km stretch of road was impassable yet our worker, Montano Galves, found his way to Geothermal GK Village. All our families are safe and the village suffered minor damage. The neighboring area is not that lucky though, some number of houses were destroyed and 10 souls were lost.
Jun Galves just got back from GK 3 and confirmed that 18 houses were severely damaged, still there's a lot of reason to be thankful as no life was lost.
