If each of us takes part in caring and sharing, the overwhelming challenge of poverty can be addressed. Alone we can do so little, but together we can do so much.
HOPE STORIES of NUEVA ECIJA

"Pinayagan po kami kasi alam po ng parents namin na may malalaman, matututunan at matatandaan na aral sa buhay dito. Nagvolunteer po kami dahil gusto po naming makatulong at makapagserve. Masaya po ang first Bayani Challenge experience namin kasi po na-experience po namin kung paano ang tunay na pagmamalasakit sa kapwa."

"I experienced in every GK community I visited the culture of caring and sharing. That is the identity of a Filipino that I will remember."

"Ate tabi tayo."
*hugs me*
"Ate kandong mo ako."
(...and he slept for almost an hour) Simply experiencing the care and trust of this child has been greatly rewarding. They laugh and smile without worry, they run and play like the world is a big playground. This kid has reminded me that life is hard but you still have a choice to be happy  and content with what you have. He has reminded me that there are a lot of reasons to smile about than to complain. Blessed two days of nation building indeed."

"Masaya maging Malaya dahil pwede magpintura."

Diwa Cruz

"What I like most about this trip is the interaction with the community. The kids are very friendly and also the elder ones. They are happy that we are here. As a father and thinking of my family back home, I know that they were given a lot of opportunities and being in this community makes me want to be able to do more to help others."

Eda (in yellow): "Ate Jaja saan ka pupunta? Pwede ba kami sumama?"
Jaja: "Mag-ikot. Pwede sumama pero bawal ang makulit."
Gelai (in pink): "Opo, hindi po kami maglilikot."

Meet my new friends here at GK Kalayaan Village.

"I love volunteering because I want to serve. This is a great opportunity that allows us to spend time with the communities, help paint their homes, play and sing with the kids. I love it when we work together. I will treasure this experience for the rest of my life."

Annet Chapman,
Optus Australia Volunteer
Gabaldon, Nueva Ecija

"I want to be able to give back to my country and Singtel has given us this opportunity. I am blessed to be selected to participate. I want to learn the struggles of the less fortunate and it gives me a wider perspective of life and really have a better appreciation of where I am now and where I am going. It's been fun doing activities with the GK Sibol kids and as a mom I am able to replicate what I do at home. GK gives the poor a better chance in life."

Laurice Candy Guico,
Singtel Singapore Volunteer
Gabaldon, Nueva Ecija

"Many people do volunteer work to impact the lives of others, but what is extra amazing with Bayani Challenge is it also lets you change your own life. It lets you be part of a cause that extends beyond yourself. This week has been very humbling and inspiring experience."
