If each of us takes part in caring and sharing, the overwhelming challenge of poverty can be addressed. Alone we can do so little, but together we can do so much.
HOPE STORIES of CEBU

Paying It Forward

CEBU

Brgy. San Miguel, San Remigio

One year after Haiyan, the survivors and beneficiaries show us that even in the midst of tragedy, no one is too poor that he cannot give. Read more

"Bakit ka nagvovolunteer?"
"Kasi kasama ko si Papa parati. Masaya ang mga gingagawa dito at di usual na ginagawa sa bahay. At para may madaming experience kahit bata pa."
"Pang-ilang Bayani Challenge mo na to?"
"First pero 3 years na ako nagvovolunteer."

"Gab, why do you continuously find ways to volunteer?"
"To see the smiles on children's faces. *laugh*
I enjoy helping man gud. Parang it gives you satisfaction to see a community come together and that you're one of the reasons that they came together. It teaches you to be humble and appreciate what you have. "

Gab Arcenas
Barili, Cebu

Belle: "I volunteer because I want to help people. And volunteering with my sister is always exciting."

Kaye: "I volunteer because God never ceases to give me the capacity to be able to give and share. It's fun to have my sister along with me. It helps us grow, not just individually, but helps us bond. And an increased chance of annoying her being teased more because we meet more Ates and Kuyas! =P"

"I wasn't able to talk to the kids because my bestfriend was the one facilitating but I was able to handle the Mother's Day Card Making and this is what they wrote:

'Salamat mama for cooking for us everyday'

'Salamat mama sa pag-alaga, pagbantay at pagpapaaral sa amin lahat.'

"Happy mother's day ma. Sana hindi na ako maging pasaway sayo'

These are some of the lines that I remembered from our kids in Brgy. Tarong, Madridejos. No gutom na tiyan can stop them from thanking their mamas. They were all excited and sincere."

Claire Tabanas, 20
Bantayan Island, Cebu

"Brgy Walang Iwanan is in line with what we want to happen in our municipality. It is the same spirit that we are fighting for in our town. It is a challenge for us in Barili to answer to our town's concerns. We will always have something to contribute despite our age, social status or financial standing. We can be heroes, but we have to awaken the hero in us."
