GK AUSTRIA

In March 2011, the Philippine Embassy in Vienna arranged a program for GK Founder Tony Meloto, who gave a series of talks that highlighted the importance of individual and collective contributions to nation-building. Tony Meloto met with the Filipino-Austrian community in Vienna and Linz. At the University of Vienna, he met with the university officials to introduce GK and explore cooperation in civic immersion programs in the Philippines for the university's students.

At the meeting, Ambassador Lourdes O. Yparraguirre reiterated the Embassy's intent to facilitate collaboration between Filipino and Austrian researchers and academicians, including on issues relating to migration and development.

GK FRANCE

In Europe, the opportunity to expand Gawad Kalinga’s reach lies in engaging the youth and sharing the spirit of GK with them. Through the efforts of GK Advocate from France Olivier Girault, Gawad Kalinga was able to connect to a new network of students and school officials all over France and other parts of Europe. Since 2011, Tony Meloto has been meeting with officials and partners from different academic institutions and corporations, bringing Gawad Kalinga’s global template for poverty into their consciousness.

This enabled Gawad Kalinga to connect to student leaders and potential social entrepreneurship interns. By tapping the youth from the best business schools, Gawad Kalinga is not only providing them with an opportunity to learn and experience the GK way of caring and sharing in the Philippines, but also with a way to use their business knowhow and help build social enterprises that do not leave the poor behind.

GK IRELAND

The faces of the GK Heroes are everywhere: advocates, workers, partners, and donors who support the mission and vision of Gawad Kalinga. The 1st project that the GK Ireland team completed was in 2007, located in Brgy. Daganas, Catarman, Samar, known as "GK Saving You". In June 2009, work began on the 2nd Irish GK village,  located in Tubigon, Maramag, Bukidnon. Known as St. Patrick's Village, it was turned over last July 2010.

GK advocates in Ireland continue to spread the GK Way of caring and sharing to like-minded individuals. Interested volunteers and partners who live in the area may contact Bimbo Manuel.

GK NETHERLANDS

Following Typhoon Haiyan, GK Executive Director Luis Oquiñena was invited to Amsterdam, Netherlands, to take part in the national Dutch TV appeal for the Philippines. "We are here to honour the survivors and thousands of GK volunteers," he shared with the leading 7 Dutch newspapers and magazines. That day, the Dutch community through a telethon raised more than Euro 15 million.

Impressed with the enormous helpfulness of the Netherlands, Oquiñena expressed, “You are the first country to organize such a large-scale support operation. That means very much to my fellow countrymen, who are now busy trying to survive. Those who are hungry cannot think about rebuilding the village.”

As awareness increases, so do the possibilities for more partnerships between Gawad Kalinga and other parts of Europe, including the Netherlands.

Skoll Award to Gawad Kalinga: Freedom to Serve

"We have a long way to go to our audacious dream of helping end poverty for 5 million families in our country by 2024 but an important global recognition like the Skoll award brings us closer to our goal. It turns skeptics into optimists, by-standers into doers and deepens the faith of believers that it can be done."

From France to England, GK Smells Just As Sweet

"Officially, I'm in England and France on a speaking tour of 17  business, management and development schools about hope in our bottom-of-the-pyramid initiative called Gawad Kalinga and its social business offspring Human Nature.
