BUILDING COMMUNITIES TO END POVERTY
WHO WE ARE HOW WE END POVERTY VOLUNTEER GIVE EXPLORE GK1WORLD
GIVE
If each of us takes part in caring and sharing, the overwhelming challenge of poverty can be addressed. Alone we can do so little, but together we can do so much.

There is nothing quite like love that’s freely given and received to warm hearts in grief and despair. If Christmas were ultimately about a love so extraordinary, then it couldn’t get any more Christmas than today. Here are some highlights from our efforts to share Christmas with as many:

December 29, 2013

Look who shared their Christmas with our GK communities (that they already considered as their family): the Babaos! A family that prays and shares their Christmas together, stays together!

"Anya enjoyed playing Santa to our Gawad Kalinga families. Thanks guys for spending this important day with our Gawad Kalinga Art40 & Art2Heart Families. All 340 of them. Growing family."

Thank you, Ate Tintin, for sharing this! More photos on her Instagram account: @christinebbabao

It's Christmas everyday! An opportunity to live and love like Christ! Sharing with you this inspiring hope story of sharing Christmas to 100 street kids from Kuya Marc of Team Gawad Kalinga Las Pinas:

"Overflowing Love! It's amazing what can come out of heartwork. We started this project with nothing but love in our hearts, the gifts are now overflowing! Thanks to everyone who put their time and effort for this project to be a success! Mabuhay po kayong lahat! You have brought smiles and hope to more than a hundred kids! Thank you for sharing your time and treasure to bring happiness to them. God bless your families! The more we empty ourselves , the more we are filled. The more we give, the merrier we become. Merry Christmas!"

December 24, 2013

A few hours to go and it's Christmas Day! Woot! And our hope stories just keep coming and coming! Sharing with you an update from Ate Sheila of Team GK Antique:

"Last weekend, we have been blessed with an opportunity to reach out to the IP community in Laua-an because of our strong partnership with the AFP. Huey choppers were sent to bring goods to 4 upland barangays in Laua-an, Antique. The tribal leader kept on saying that they were grateful and blessed because of the presence of GK yet we were truly grateful and blessed too having the chance to give and be a channel to share."

May we be constantly reminded for the reason of the season: Christ. And the way He live His life: loving and sharing without counting the cost.

NakapagMisa de Gallo ka na ba? Pangalawang araw na!

"Misa de Gallo and morning coffee. Tacloban City. My heart needs to start experiencing Christmas so that I could better share the warmth it brings. Yes, Christmas lives."

Tara!

Sharing with you this story all the way from Dapitan City, Zamboanga del Norte shared by Ramiel:

"An inspiring story from GK Sulangon, one of our GK community. Our Kapitbahayan (GK residents) were able to raise an amount for the rehabilitation of the areas affected by Typhoon Yolanda.
'Nung kami ay nangangailangan, kami ay nabiyayaan. Kami naman ang handang tumulong sa iba sa ganitong paraan. Walang iwanan!'"

Cause each of us can take part in bringing HOPE and sharing CHRISTMAS! All for the families in Visayas.

It's 9 days before Christmas and first day of Misa de Gallo! Sharing with you this inspiration all the way from Cateel, Davao Oriental:

"So inspiring, you'd wonder how an 8-year old can be so full of wisdom and kindness. Vavam is from Cateel, a typhoon survivor himself and now a model of hope to his 'friends' in Tacloban whom he only saw on tv and never actually knew personally. Thank you Vavam and all of the 75 other kids who made Christmas cards to cheer up their fellow Filipino children in Tacloban. Thank you for effortlessly bringing Christmas in our hearts."

Thank you, Arianne, for sharing this! May this continue to remind us to continue in making hope real for our brothers and sisters in Visayas.

December 15, 2013

It's 10 days before Christmas! As we countdown to the special day of the coming of the greatest Lover of all, we'll be sharing with you Christmas moments and stories on how the young and young at heart are sharing the joy of Christmas with our GK communities and with our brothers and sisters in Visayas!

We're starting with this inspiring story! Aaron, Ariel, Iya and Chloe are doing their part in helping raise resources for 100 homes for #GoodnessRising - a GK Village for 100 families, by Human Heart Nature. They tugged so many hearts, not only by their charms and cuteness, but by their hearts to help Visayas! And oh, Chloe was able to raise P3,400 in one night with her amazing cartwheeling skills! Great job, kids, and may you inspire more young people to join us rebuild Visayas!

December 15, 2013

Haven't done your Christmas shopping yet? Head out to the GK Enchanted Farm for the Countryside Christmas Fair! It's a one-of-a-kind bazaar featuring some of the best social enterprises and most proceeds from sales will help the victims of Yolanda rise from tragedy.

Eat, shop, have fun and share Christmas at the GK Enchanted Farm Countryside Christmas Fair!

Trucks are to be filled with relief packs (and hope!) prepared with love by our volunteers. All for you, Samar and Leyte! It's our 28th day here at our FTI-Taguig Command Center and we're on our last stretch of sending goods to Visayas. We'll be here til December 13, Friday! But definitely not our last to send hope and our love. Cause we'll be rebuilding sooooon!

If we all do our share, December can still be Christmas for all. Let's share Christmas!

December 8, 2013

"During the Rated K taping at GK Cox Village, Payatas, some of the residents said that they used to feel like their life had no meaning. Now, they have jobs, their kids go to school, and they are proud homeowners. When they look at the horizon, they see beyond the mountain of garbage, and into a future filled with hope and possibilities. They will not just be featured -- they also helped create the episode. They were generous, thoughtful, and so eager to extend a much-needed helping hand to the Rated K staff. KB (GK Resident) President Tita Sarah said it best when she exclaimed, "Dito sa GK Cox Village, Payatas, buhay na buhay ang bayanihan!" To learn more and to see the life-size CHOCOLATE HOUSE made of chocolate (duh), cookies, marshmallows and other sweets that the residents helped build, please watch Rated K!" - Therese, GK worker

Magandang Sabado na Umaga! Know what inspired us so early today? Seeing hundreds of volunteers from the family of Telus International dance to the beat of hope and hearts here at the DAR Gym. Spot Canadian Ambassador Neil Reeder joining the fun and excitement! Getting all inspired to prepare relief packs (and fill em with love and hope!) for Leyte! Sharing Christmas, all for Visayas! And you, your family and friends (even your company, school or organization!) can take part in sharing the joy of Christmas to Visayas!

If we all do our share, December can still be Christmas for all. Let's share Christmas!

20 days to go before Christmas! Sharing with you a post from Tita Brenda from GK Davao who was with our Operation Walang Iwanan team in Eastern Visayas:

"On our way back to Tacloban from Borongan, Samar, we saw this beautiful yet unusual sight of a Christmas tree by the roadside in Hernani, Eastern Samar, one of the areas worst hit by Typhoon Yolanda.

Apparently, this tree was put together by the children (including these kids in the picture) from materials found among the debris.

The little one initially refused to join the group for a photo and kept holding on to his father's hand, until he finally obliged.

Despite the severe trauma and horrors they had gone through, robbing them of their childhood, they still manage to share the joy of Christmas in their usual childlike innocence, showing us adults what it means to hope and to rebuild."

December 4, 2013

It's been 1 year. We just want to share with you this post by Ate Claire of Team GK before this day ends:

"About the same time last year, Typhoon Pablo (Bopha) surprised typically sunny Southern Mindanao with Cat5 typhoon specs. By now, GK has turned over more than a hundred houses; our local teams and volunteers will celebrate Christmas with the community and albeit a few hiccups here and there, will continue the rebuilding efforts for those still waiting.

Gawad Kalinga doesn't use 'Walang Iwanan' loosely. It's a promise - the same kind we've made for our 'igsuons', mga kapatid in the Visayas. And so for the 'nth time in the year and in the decade, walang iwanan!"

As we pray for the lives that was lost a year ago, we continue to find ways to bring hope to families affected by calamities.

Everyone takes part in bringing hope to the families in the Visayas...the Peninsula Hotels in Asia and USA included! Thru their trees of hope! Kindness indeed makes us one global family. Thank you, Peninsula Hotels!

HOPE FOR THE PHILIPPINES is a four-pronged initiative in each Peninsula hotel across Asia and the USA from 22 November 2013 – 31 January 2014 to raise funds to support the victims of Super Typhoon Yolanda/Haiyan in the Eastern Visayas region of the Philippines. “HOPE FOR THE PHILIPPINES” comprises a donation for each guest stay, plus the proceeds from a special Philippine-themed “Tea of Hope”, the classic Filipino Halo Halo iced dessert and “Trees of Hope” in each hotel.

Thank you, Ace Arred, for this photo!

More inspiring stories for the heart! Sharing a post from Tito Jerome of Southern Leyte whose team has been supporting our Operation Walang Iwanan in Leyte for almost 3 weeks now. He was Santa Claus to the kids yesterday!

"Myla, the little girl in pink dress with white lining hugging my right shoulder whispered to me, 'Diri pa ak nakakita ng Santa Claus, kon waray pa nag bagyo, diri ka makadi, salamat Santa Claus. (I just met Santa Claus now. If not for the typhoon, Santa won't come. Thank you, Santa Claus!).' Words that pierced my heart!"

Let's continue to find ways to bring hope and share Christmas with the families in Visayas...and yes, Santa Claus included!

Take part, give, share, and volunteer!
