2nd Gawad Kalinga Camarines Sur CYD Olympics
[Date Created: August 13, 2013]

Most students can’t contain their enthusiasm and spend their summer break doing various extra-curricular undertakings. A few weeks before the kick-off of classes, Gawad Kalinga Camarines Sur gathered the children and youth from the 32 GK sites in the province. We wanted to end their summer with a bang, and we did this through the 2nd CYD Olympics entitled “Laro ng Lahi.”

The event was a great venue for the children to enhance their ability to develop self-confidence, good sportsmanship, social and teamwork skills while inculcating and experiencing the best of Filipino culture through sports. The experience also taught them to work hard and have fun at the same time.

I was thrilled to witness the opening ceremony as each of the communities had really startled everyone in the audience as they showed off their stunning uniforms during the parade of heroes. The whole morning was consumed with simultaneous sports competitions and relays, namely: tumbang preso, luksong tinik, patintero, palo sebo, sack race, volley ball, dodge ball, basketball, etc.

Meanwhile, the whole afternoon was allotted to showcase the talents of the children and youth in performing arts as they joined the singing and dancing competition.
