Bayanihan for GK PWD Village

By: Gian Nicdao, GK Marketing intern

The GK Fridays last July 22nd was an extra special one. Not only because we hosted it with our Human Heart Nature family, but this GK Fridays was in the GK Munting Pamayanan Village in Escopa 3, Quezon City - a GK community committed and dedicated to our PWD brothers and sisters.

The GK Munting Pamayanan Villlage is home to a number of families, most of them having a differently-abled family member. What was left of the housing project built in 1983 was a community constantly rebuilding their houses from scraps of wood and metal. Everyone deserves a house that they can call home, one that is sturdy and has permanence - and that is exactly what over 50 volunteers from Human Heart Nature, AllgemeineBau-Chemie Phil., Inc., RTL, TIP-Manila, and the online community started to build for Munting Pamayanan last GK Fridays.

The kids of GK Escopa Munting Pamayanan greeted us when we arrived - such infectious energy and smiles!

Ate Mayla shares the story of the community of GK Escopa Munting Pamayanan.

The main task for the volunteers during the House Build was to move the pile of adobe soil to the other end of the lot. The volunteers created a Bayanihan Line for it, creating an efficient way to get the task done.

The volunteers needed an energizer after lunch so community dance it is!

Kuya Danny, a differently-abled member of the GK PWD community, performed songs for the volunteers. He also told us that he regularly plays for Bellini's. a popular restaurant in Cubao.

For this GK Fridays' Paraisong Pambata, Human Heart Nature hosted a mask-making activity as well as games for the kids' enjoyment.

From 8:00 AM-4:00 PM, the volunteers worked hard to build homes for GK Munting Pamayanan Village. Nevertheless, they knew that their hard work have created hope and that in itself is more than enough.

"If I bring one thing back with me when I go back - it's bayanihan."
