Let’s join Gawad Kalinga as they take action towards the fulfillment of their latest El Niño project, “Operation Walang Iwanan."

Poverty is prevalent in the Philippines. Merely walking along the streets of Manila will show you how it has dramatically infested our country like an incurable disease — and hunger is the major symptom of it.

Being the most storm-exposed country on earth according to TIME, the Filipinos are always on the verge of starting-over. From rebuilding homes to folding businesses, these disasters entirely affect the livelihood of ordinary Filipinos which could impede long term goals.

In fact, just recently, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAG-ASA) released a bulletin stating how 23 provinces (18 in Mindanao) are most likely to experience drought in the next coming months.

This is where Gawad Kalinga enters. Gawad Kalinga Community Development Foundation, Inc. (GK) is a Philippine-based movement that aims to end poverty for 5 million families by 2024 — that's a high goal to achieve, but if they are starting this early, we don't see it as an impossibility!

"If each of us takes part in caring and sharing, the overwhelming challenge of poverty can be addressed. Alone we can do so little, but together we can do so much," according to Gawad Kalinga.

To prepare for the El Niño, GK activated a mission program called "Operation Walang Iwanan"

"El Niño is most real in communities who have so little to begin with. Like in any other disaster, poverty further exposes those who are already vulnerable. And as the onset of drought has started to destroy farms in many areas, hunger also becomes increasingly felt by our farmers and their families, the very people who work hard to put food on our tables," according to Gawad Kalinga.

Now is our opportunity to care for the farmers who tirelessly provided for us by making sure that their families do not go hungry. Hunger ends where caring begins. Walang iwanan!
