Last February 2015, senior management and employees from the National Reinsurance Corporation of the Philippines (NRCP) joined workers and volunteers from the Gawad Kalinga Community Development Foundation (GK) in building homes for underprivileged Filipino families in Mandaluyong City, Philippines.  The activity marks the start of NRCP’s support of GK’s continuing efforts in disaster resilience. 

NRCP is proudly a Filipino Reinsurance Firm that provides Life and Non-life Reinsurance capacity primarily to the Philippine and Asia Pacific insurance market. With its capability to take on greater risk, the company provides stability, financial security and protection against catastrophic events to insurance companies. This enables partner insurance firms to immediately respond to financial needs for rehabilitation of life, property and business due to disasters caused by typhoons, earthquake and fire.

GK is a Filipino non-profit foundation that has built over 2,000 communities across the country.  Since its inception in 2003, the foundation has been at the forefront of disaster response and recovery activities all over the country.  In 2014, GK worked actively in areas affected by Typhoon Yolanda, the earthquake in Bohol, and conflict areas in Zamboanga city – distributing over 130,000 food packs, building 1,258 permanent homes, refurbishing over 1,000 schools, and providing food nutrition assistance to 3,652 children.  

At the build, NRCP also turned over a charitable donation of Php 500,000 to GK to assist it in its capacity building and overall program development related to disaster resiliency.  This year, the company will also work closely with GK in developing its corporate volunteerism program.
