Globe Telecom’s Bangon Pinoy Program has partnered with Bayan-Anihan (BA) in rehabilitating the lives of typhoon victims by building BA farms in typhoon-hit areas in Luzon.
Last Nov 7, 70 Globe employees, led by Corporate Communications Head Yolly Crisanto, arrived in GK Amalia Village, Concepcion Tarlac to help build a Globe-Bayan-Anihan farm for the 150 families living in the said village.
No less than Concepcion Mayor Noel Villanueva welcomed them and thanked Globe for giving their time for the people of Concepcion. Provincial Agriculturist Edwina Tabamo, Municipal Agriculturist Venecia Cortez and Couples for Christ members were all present to share in the festivities.
Together with community residents, the Globe employee-volunteers happily painted community & plot markers and an arbor, put up bamboo fences, landscaped the farm entrance and transported construction materials like CHB, sand & gravel and even a “bahay kubo” to complete a beautiful Globe- Bayan-Anihan Farm. During lunch, the group was treated to a “Boodle Fight”, eating on banana leaves and feasting on the food that the community mothers prepared for them.
The half-day event ended with all the volunteers agreeing that the activity was a very rewarding experience.
To date, Globe Telecom has 35 Bayan-Anihan farms nationwide since 2008 and their employee-volunteers continue to give of their time in building farms.
Featured Partner: Pilipinas Shell Foundation partners with Bayan-Anihan in microbial fertilizer technology Pilipinas Shell Foundation Inc (PSFI).
Has recently partnered with Bayan-Anihan (BA) in producing organic fertilizers for BA farms through their microbial composting technology in order to improve community production of said fertilizers.
A technology study and farm tour of PSFI laboratory in Pililia, Rizal, was initiated by PSFI Program Manager Pam Castro and BA Technology and Training Director Dr. Candida Adalla.
Microbial composting technology utilizes the application bacteria to rapidly decompose organic matter. Beneficially, this technology will cut production time of organic fertilizers to as much as half, allowing farmers to produce vegetables on schedule.
5 Shell sponsored BA Farms in Bicol will be first to pilot this technology which will be studied in the hopes of scaling up in more BA farms come 2010.
